Award-winning Belfast writer Jan Carson returns to Aspects to discuss her extraordinary new novel.

Few and Far Between is a richly imaginative story where folklore, history and magical realism intertwine. Set around an alternative Lough Neagh in 2017, the novel follows the last inhabitants of a mysterious island community facing evacuation as long-buried memories, ghosts and secrets begin to surface.

Jan is the author of four novels, three short story collections and two microfiction collections. Her acclaimed novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland, while The Raptures was shortlisted for both the An Post Irish Novel of the Year and Kerry Group Novel of the Year. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

In conversation, Jan will explore the inspiration behind Few and Far Between, her distinctive approach to storytelling, and how fiction can reimagine place, memory and the enduring legacy of Northern Ireland’s past. Expect a fascinating evening with one of Ireland’s most original literary voices.
